About Me

I develop communications strategies and write brand stories that help companies connect with their audiences on a personal level.

Experience

In 2002 I cofounded Galvin Communications, a PR and word of mouth marketing firm in Portland, Oregon. With a knack for spotting and developing a good news story, I’ve placed clients in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Business Week, Forbes, Inc., Entrepreneur, Outside, InStyle, HGTV, NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox and more.

Prior to that I was a management consultant for a brand strategy firm in San Francisco where, I am embarrassed to admit, I produced more than my fair share of jargon-filled PowerPoint presentations. Still, I am grateful for the experience since it sharpened my project management skills while forever curing me of the need to make mountains out of molehills (or publish a thousand words when 250 will do).

Education

I have an MBA from the Haas School of Business (UC Berkeley, California) and a BA from Hofstra University, NY (Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa). I speak German and French and a slight smattering of Spanish. I am also studying Mandarin to keep up with my toddler who is in an immersion program and is probably already talking about me behind my back.

What I’m About

I’m curious about business. Love to travel. Feel happiest when I’m outdoors and am crazy about dogs. I also enjoy hacking away at jargon and controlling clutter (and not just the kind that you throw into your shopping cart at the warehouse store).

I believe that people everywhere are not only surrounded but also overwhelmed by the never-ending stream of input and information. That’s why snappy, succinct storytelling is more important than ever—and it’s what I try do,whether I’m pitching a company’s story to the media, developing web copy for a consumer site, producing an industry whitepaper, helping an author ghostwrite his or her life story, or writing a travel article for an in-flight magazine.

(Oh yeah, people say I have a sharp sense of humor and am fun to work with, too. Unless, of course, you are offended if I tell you to “cut the fluff and get to the point.” Then, maybe not so much.)
